WITSAND NEWS - A fun weekend with some serious SUP'ing (Stand-Up Paddling) can be expected at the upcoming Pili Pili Whale of a Race that has established itself as one of the best paying Stand Up Paddleboard races in the country.
This event will be taking place on Saturday 29 September at Witsand and cash prizes up to R35 000 are up for grabs. Prizes don't, however, come easy. The mighty Breede River always has a surprise waiting for race day, whether it is wind, currents, sandbanks or waves and it is bound to be very interesting.
Throw in an NSRI benefit 'potjie', surfing, kiting and the indomitable Beerpong Champs and this weekend promises to be a weekend sure to remember.
The Southern Right whale numbers are breaking records in Witsand this year with over 1 300 counted in the San Sebastian Bay area. Numerous white calves are also to be seen. The organisers are including a Baby Whale event this year for kids and leisure paddlers and no one has an excuse to stay at home.
Information, maps, entry and accommodation for the event are available here on or contact Neels at 072 287 2475.
