GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - Since the beginning of the year, separate learner/teachers workshops have been held in Riversdale, Oudtshoorn, George, Mossel Bay and Beaufort West to assist learners with their research projects for the Eskom Expo for Young Scientists.
"We've reached the halfway mark towards the end goal of the regional competition," said Eden Karoo admin assistant Sonet Strydom.
Between 11 and 13 May three district expos were held Heatherlands High in George, Voorwaarts Primêr in Riversdale and Bridgton Secondary in Oudtshoorn.
The expos saw 111 projects, 139 learners and 35 judges participating (including three Eden Karoo committee members). All registered projects received insight from judges who are experts in their field."
Strydom thanked the schools for availing their halls for the expos. She said district expos are the last contact sessions before the regional competition.
The valuable and positive feedback from judges at these expos will ensure that expo standards are met and help improve project content.
"It is always good to finally get a view on the brilliant ideas our learners come up with to find solutions to most of our common issues," she said.
"The final proof will be when these wonderful ideas come to fruition at our regional competition, which will be held at Outeniqua High School from 4 to 5 August. With sincere gratitude towards those schools who opened their halls to be used as venues that benefitted all learners in our area. Looking forward to those science boffin ideas!"
