HEIDELBERG NEWS - Firefighters from the Garden Route District Municipality’s (GRDM) Riversdale Station were called out earlier today after a controlled burn north of Heidelberg spread out of control.
The blaze, which flared up this afternoon, 21 October, prompted an immediate response from GRDM firefighting teams.
A helicopter was deployed to contain the fire front, while ground crews worked tirelessly to bring the flames under control.
According to the municipality, the operation is ongoing, with teams focusing on preventing the fire from spreading further amid challenging conditions.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any signs of veld or wildfires immediately to the GRDM Emergency Call Centre on 044 805 5071 or via WhatsApp 081 709 5193.
The municipality once again reminds the public that all controlled burns must be conducted with proper authorization and under safe weather conditions to avoid incidents such as this.
