HESSEQUA NEWS - A wildfire started late Monday, 7 February, in Gysmanshoek and was managed and monitored by a farmer who did not foresee any immediate threat.
Yesterday morning the weather conditions changed drastically and the wildfire was pushed by a south westerly wind in the direction of the Gysmanshoek Pass and a number of houses in its way.
So far, one (1) home was lost and a number of houses are still in danger.
Garden Route District Municipality's (GRDM's) Fire and Rescue Services deployed two (2) choppers, as well as a fixed wing bomber to assist with fire fighting operations during the day.
GRDM fire teams from Riversdale and George are also on the fireline and teams from CapeNature and Hessequa are also assisting.
The wildfire can be seen from the Kannaland area, due to the fact that it is high on the mountain, but it is actually positioned in the Heidelberg area in Hessequa.
