NATIONAL NEWS - Leeu-Gamka police have opened a culpable homicide docket after 21 victims succumbed following an accident on the N1 at Leeu-Gamka at 23:30 on Sunday 13 September.
The department of mobility said emergency, medical, traffic and forensic teams are still at the scene.
To allow rescue operations, forensic investigations and the safe clearance of the crash site, the N1 between Laingsburg and Beaufort West remains closed in both directions.
Motorists are strongly advised to avoid this stretch of road and use alternative routes where possible.
The only available alternative route is via Prince Albert Road Station, along the R407 towards the N12, and then continuing on the N12 towards Beaufort West. This alternative route is about 200km.
