ALBERTINIA NEWS AND VIDEO - After initial containment, major flare-ups occurred due to strong storm winds and a sudden wind change from the south-east, causing the fire to re-ignite and spread rapidly.
Infrastructure is currently under threat. Helicopters have been activated to assist with firefighting operations. A number of rondawels have already been impacted by the fire.
The fire is approaching the N2, which is currently closed at the Aloe Ferox turn-off and the Ysterfontein turn-off. Motorists are requested to remain patient and exercise caution.
