SWELLENDAM NEWS - The Swellendam municipality has appealed to residents to restrict water use in order to prevent more serious water restrictions or even a tariff hike.
According to municipal manager Anton Groenewald lower than normal water in the catchment area of Grootkloof 3 raw water dam is being experienced as a result of the ongoing drought.
This dam is the main water supply to Swellendam town, the industrial area and Railton.
Since level 1 restrictions implemented in these areas on 6 January did not have the necessary effect, level 2 restrictions were implement on 15 January.
If residents do not curb consumption, the municipality will have no choice but to increase tariffs.
