The Passover Seder dinner was celebrated at Roepersfontein AFM Church in Witsand on Thursday evening, 5 April 2012, at sunset. This celebration was conducted in a Jewish traditional style, as when Jesus ate the Passover meal with His disciples, the evening before He was crucified. Traditionally all the men wore yamake's which were lovingly made by a resident of Witsand!
The ceremony commenced with the lighting of candles by the honoured two ladies at the table.
The first cup of grape juice was drunk, followed by all participants who had to dip their fingers in water before eating the karpas, (parsley dipped in salt water) Rabbi Michael (Pastor Mike Gosling) proceeded with the Maggid, telling the Passover story. During this telling, the hands were washed again.
Then matzah (unleavened bread), marror (bitter herbs) and charoseth (mixture of apple, honey, nuts and cinnamon), boiled egg dipped in salt water, was eaten. The main meal of the traditionally prepared roasted leg of lamb and vegetables was served. After Psalms of praise and thanksgiving were read by all participants, the evenings proceedings were concluded.
