STILBAAI NEWS - A wildfire broke out earlier Wednesday afternoon, 9 March in the Wild Rescue reserve, next to a cottage at Klipfontein, Stilbaai. The cottage was subsequently destroyed by the fire.
Garden Route District Municipality (GRDM) Fire Services was requested to assist with battling the blaze that also spiralled out of control.
Aerial resources were activated immediately through the Provincial Disaster Management Centre, as several other structures were also in danger.
Ground crew from Hessequa and GRDM performed good work to keep further structures safe from being destroyed.
Inaccessible terrain required extended aerial fire firefighting which contributed to the fire being brought under control and contained within three hours.
Crews of GRDM, Working on Fire and Hessequa Municipality are busy with mopping-up operations.
