HESSEQUA NEWS - A wildfire broke out earlier this afternoon in the Wild Olive Reserve next to a cottage. The cottage was subsequently destroyed by the fire.
Garden Route District Municipality (GRDM) Fire Services were requested to assist with the blaze that spiraled out of control.
Aerial resources were activated through the Provincial Disaster Management Centre, as several other structures were also in danger.
The ground crew from Hessequa and GRDM performed well to keep further structures safe from being destroyed.
The inaccessible terrain required the utilization of extended aerial fire firefighting which contributed to the fire being brought under control and contained within three hours.
Crews of GRDM, Working on Fire, and Hessequa Municipality are currently busy with mopping-up operations.
