GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - A mother from Mossel Bay and her two sons had a narrow escape when a fire started in the engine of their Ford Kuga on Tuesday while driving to school.
Jolene Smit says they were driving at around 07:15 on the N2 at the Little Brak River offramp on their way to Vorentoe Primary School in Great brak River when her eight-year-old son saw flames coming from the engine.
"If it wasn't for my son Luke, we wouldn't have got out in time."
Smit says that within minutes the vehicle was engulfed in flames. Everything happened very fast, she says.
"I'm just glad we got out safely."
Mossel Bay firefighters extinguished the flames.
