Fishing line bins for Witsand
The bins for discarded fishing lines.
WITSAND NEWS - "Discarded fishing lines is one of the most common types of litter that we've collect during our beach clean-ups."
 
This is the words of Marzanne Carelse (Environmental Education Officer: Lower Breede River Conservancy Trust). She said it takes about 600 years for fishing lines to decompose.
 
Other than the amount of years is takes to decompose, the consequences on marine life is terrifying. Sea animals often mistake plastic and other litter as food and die because of it.
 
For this reason fishing line bins were erected at selected sites around the estuary and the beach (Witsand side).
