GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - Performing arts in South Africa is a medium that should be embraced. This is exactly why Dr Ellen Roux founded the South African Championships of Performing Arts (Sacopa) in 1998.
Roux's intention was to make her childhood dream of achieving success in the performing arts come true for other talented children and adults.
Sacopa is the only official national competition for both novice and experienced performers, and includes acting, dance, instrumental, modelling, variety acts and vocals among others.
The Southern Cape auditions for the Sacopa semi-finals took place at Eagles Nest Ministries in Pacaltsdorp on Saturday 27 May.
Approximately 50 dancers, singers, models and actors from throughout the Southern Cape competed for their spot in the national championships that take place in Rustenburg later this year.

From there the winners will be able to enter into the World Championships of Performing Arts, which takes place in Los Angeles.
"The Southern Cape has a myriad of great talent," said one of the organisers, Elmarie Grobler.
"It was exciting to see all the potential great artists showcase what is hidden inside. For some it maybe didn't pan out the way they hoped, but there is always room for improvement and there will always be a Sacopa next year.
"Best of luck to all the entries who made it through some tough judging to compete in the nationals in Rustenburg."
