GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - The SA Open Water Championships held on 2 and 3 March at Marina Martinique, Jeffreys Bay, attracted national and international open water swimming talent.
Six swimmers who train at Royal Swimming Academy in George were selected to represent the provincial team, Western Cape Aquatics, at this prestigious event.
With all Royals athletes swimming personal best times in their individual events, coach Mimette Salter could not be happier.
There were fabulous podium wins by Tammy Greenwood (gold in the 3km), Tanya Osborne, a masters swimmer training with the RSA senior squad (silver in the 3km) and Hannah Murray (bronze in the 3km and gold in the Western Cape A team relay).
George Marais, Sergio dos Santos and Marnus Kotzé, all from the Royal Swimming Academy, took part in the SA Open Water Championships.
The summarised results in the respective age groups are:
- Tammy Greenwood 3km (age 13-14) 1st; 5km (age 14-16) 8th.
- Hannah Murray 3km (age 15-16) 3rd; 5km (age 14-16) 4th.
- Marnus Kotzé 3km (age 15-16) 18th; 5km (age 14-16) 18th.
- Sergio dos Santos 10km (open) 21st; 5km (age 17-18) 9th.
- George Marais 3km (age 19-30) 8th.
- Tanya Osborne 3km (age 41-45) 2nd.
