First centre Damian de Allende scored in the 71st minute – the probable game-winner – after captain Juan de Jongh intercepted brilliantly to increase their lead to 27-18, before fullback Cheslin Kolbe scored their bonus point try in the 77th minute, pouncing on a loose ball inside his own half but then twinkle-toed his way for a terrific score before a stunned Waratahs home ground.
It was the Stormers first win on tour and the splendid display have been based on a sound and tigerish defensive system, while at scrumtime they gave the Tahs a nightmare experience on the day.
Trailing by two after the break the Stormers seized the lead back seven minutes into the second period with a breath-taking long-distance try by wing Kobus van Wyk and with flyhalf Kurt Koleman, who replaced Demetri Catrakilis, converting it was 20-15 to the Capetonians.
