Western Cape’s top schools and universities an attraction for buyers across the globe
Apart from the great location, good governance and the many great attractions, one of the reasons for the success of the Cape Town property market is the Cape’s excellent schools and universities. According to the Seeff Property Group, Western Cape and Cape Town schools are always among the best performing when it comes to matric results.
Not having to worry about traffic matters also makes residing close to a top school or university a top priority for many families. Chairman of the property group, Samuel Seeff, said buyers can expect to pay a premium of 20%-40% for a location close to a top-ranked school. Suburbs close to top schools and universities also tend to do better during a market downturn.
According to Seeff, the Cape’s top schools also draw semigrating buyers and foreigners from all over the continent and globe. A Lightstone study revealed that a greater number of foreigners (predominantly expats) are buying homes in the country and it is intriguing that these are around areas with top schools, such as Tamboerskloof, Rondebosch, Century City, Sunningdale and Table View.
Cape Town’s universities’ are all a big draw-card for the city, attracting children of wealthy people from other African countries.
