WESTERN CAPE NEWS - Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Yolisa Matakata has expressed shock and dismay with the horrific act that claimed the life of an innocent child during a domestic dispute on a farm in Buffelsjagsrivier near Swellendam yesterday.
Preliminary investigation reveals that at about 15:30, the 33-years-old suspect and his cohabit, the mother of the child, had a domestic dispute on the farm Bloemhof that is situated in Buffelsjagsrivier near Swellendam.
Whilst fighting with his partner over work on a farm in a neighbouring town (Witsand), the suspect grabbed hold of the child, took her outside the dwelling where he fatally stabbed the child.
The baby girl who has been identified as Alime Mbasha, died on the scene due to cut and stab wounds to her neck and chest respectively. The mother who is 24-years old sustained only minor injuries during the ordeal.
The suspect who is the father of the deceased was duly arrested and taken to Swellendam SAPS where he is currently being detained. He will be facing a charge of Murder.
He is scheduled to appear in the local magistrates’ court, on Monday, 13 January.
The Provincial Commissioner has condemned the horrific act in the strongest terms possible and urge justice to prevail in ensuring that the suspects remains behind bars.
"He must be held accountable for taking the life of an innocent child who was not able to defend herself."
During her introductory media briefing on Monday, the Provincial Commissioner expressed her concern on the issue of crime in the province, especially crime against Women and Children and was therefore appalled to hear of this latest incident.
