Nandi Mgwadlamba, spokesperson for SANparks, said this morning, Monday, December 14, they are monitoring the situation and will have clear answers on the extent of the red tide within the next couple of hours.
Mgwadlamba could not say if a ban on fishing and swimming would be implemented, but said depending on the extent of the red tide, this could happen later today.
A red tide is presently threatening the entire Garden Route coastal area. The red tide is already visible from Tsitsikamma heading past the coastal area of Knysna.
Mgwadlamba, on December 12, confirmed the fears of many who are concerned about the tide and the effect it may have on the sea life.
