NATIONAL NEWS - An eight-year-old child drowned after falling into the Rietspruit river in Centurion on Saturday morning.
The incident happened around 10:45, at Thatchfield Gardens, said Tshwane emergency services spokesperson deputy chief Charles Mabaso.
“We received a call about a drowning and immediately went out to the scene,” he said.
“Upon arrival, emergency services found a child of about eight-years-old that was reported to have fallen into the water.”
He said according to the information on the scene, security guards tried to administer CPR on the child.
“Unfortunately, the child had already passed away,” he said.
The child was declared dead on the scene by medical personnel, he said.
Mabaso said the case was handed over to the police for further investigation.
