HEIDELBERG NEWS - Firefighters have successfully brought a wildfire near Heidelberg under control after it spread from a permitted burn on Tuesday 2 September.
The blaze, which broke out around 16:30, drew a swift response from Hessequa Municipality, the Southern Cape Fire Protection Association (SCFPA) - Working on Fire, and the Garden Route District Municipality (GRDM) Fire and Rescue Services.
Thanks to the co-ordinated efforts of the fire crews, the wildfire no longer poses a threat.
However, authorities urge residents to remain cautious as weather conditions can quickly change and reignite the fire in risk areas.
Members of the public are reminded to report any veld- or wildfires immediately to the GRDM Emergency Call Centre on 044 805 5071 or via WhatsApp on 081 709 5193.
