STILBAAI NEWS - Members and former members of the Defence Force and police and any other service were invited to attend a Remembrance Day service on Sunday 12 November at the Stilbaai Police Station.
Remembrance Day, or Poppy Day as it is sometimes known, is a worldwide memorial day to respect those members who have died in the line of duty and is held on Sunday 11 November or the Sunday closest to the date.
Richard Webb, a retired member of the Pretoria Highlanders, together with three more members of this unit, initiated this quiet ceremony where a wreath was laid at the police station.
In attendance were senior ex-officers and non-commissioned officers with their spouses, as well as the Station Commander, Captain Johan van Tonder with his team and Councilor Tinus van den Berg.
They are hoping that this will continue each year as South Africa and many other countries attend ceremonies in Memory of the Fallen, who made the ultimate sacrifice while in service.
