SWELLENDAM NEWS - Motorists travelling on the N2 between Cape Town and George are urged to exercise caution after one lane on the Bree River Bridge near Swellendam was temporarily closed as a precautionary safety measure.
According to South Cape Traffic, the lane carrying traffic from Cape Town towards George has been closed, while the lane from George towards Cape Town remains open to traffic.
Authorities confirmed that there is currently no water flowing over the bridge or roadway.
The temporary closure was implemented purely for safety reasons to prevent excessive vehicle load and weight on the bridge amid recent severe weather conditions affecting parts of the Western Cape.
Traffic officials are monitoring the situation closely and motorists are advised to remain patient, obey traffic instructions and expect possible delays in the area.
No indication has yet been given as to when the affected lane will reopen fully to traffic.
