Update
ALBERTINIA NEWS - Firefighting operations are continuing on the fireline, with the Garden Route District Municipality (GRDM) Fire Chief confirming that significant progress has been made, largely due to effective aerial firefighting support.
Ground crews remain actively engaged in securing the fire perimeter, focusing on areas affected by shifting wind conditions and flare-ups.
However, efforts have been hampered by difficult terrain, with the entire western fireline inaccessible to firefighting vehicles. Dense, dry alien invasive vegetation has further complicated operations, contributing to multiple spot fires and re-ignition.
Aerial firefighting resources were stood down at 18:00. Night shift crews will continue mop-up operations in contained areas and construct scratch lines and firebreaks as precautionary measures throughout the night.
Several rondawel thatch roofs were unfortunately damaged by the fire.
Members of the public are urged to report any veld or wildfire immediately to the GRDM Emergency Call Centre on 044 805 5071 or via WhatsApp on 081 709 5193.
