LIFESTYLE NEWS - Exercise is one of the ways to improve your physical well-being and it aids in great measure to get rid of ailments, aches and pains.
Follow the exercise programme provided by the biokineticists at Anine van der Westhuizen Biokineticist in George and feel the difference. Last week Megan van Huyssteen introduced us to the latest fitness trend - EMS.
A quick recap
EMS (Electro Muscle Stimulation) mimics the natural action of our central nervous system, sending electrical impulses to contract our deep muscle fibres. EMS is applied through a device that has the capacity to contract your muscles via an electrical current passed through your muscles. This gives you a whole body session with muscle activation all over.
However, it is not a quick fix, nor is it a sweat-free experience. Our patients will tell you a 20-22 minutes session is tougher than hitting a regular gym - but it gets better results. Though you'll start feeling the strengthening process from the first session, it takes about six to eight weeks to feel the full benefit. The best results are achieved with two sessions a week.
EMS drastically reduces the amount of time you need to reap the benefits of exercise, but you still need to work hard during the training session. Additional exercise during the week is beneficial and helps achieving your goals much faster.
EMS and your metabolism
The brain controls voluntary muscle contraction to generate a coordinated force, but the brain does not allow the body to work at its maximum capacity and seldom activates our full physiological potential during these types of contractions. EMS's effectiveness can be ascribed to its ability to stimulate involuntary muscle contractions. By recruiting and activating more muscle fibres and building and toning more muscle over time, your resting and active metabolic rate increases - which means you burn more calories during the day. An EMS machine can fire all the motor neurons in a targeted muscle simultaneously to create an intense contraction.
EMS training is not based on false promises or gimmicks. Various studies have proved that EMS produces maximal muscle contraction, offering better results than conventional training.
EMS helps you get that strong summer body faster.
