RIVERSDALE NEWS - The Namaqua Dog & Donkey Foundation (NDDF) played a huge part in this successful spayathon that took place in Riversdal from 9 to 11 October. They generously sponsored 150 animals. We are so grateful for this sponsorship, as our community is really struggling to make ends meet.
Before getting all this in place Candace Bouwer, Shanine o' Connell and Robyn Learmonth helped log from home to home.
Bouwer Flooring also made a financial contribution towards the sterilisations.
In the three days, 16 male cats, 25 female cats, which were mostly pregnant, 41 male dogs and 94 female dogs were sterilised.
A total of 107 fetuses were removed - heartbreaking but at least saved from a life of misery.
Dr Annelisse Roos from EnviroVet CVC treated a Cherry-eye, tested a cat for FeLV and Aids as well as male dogs with TVT.
This all could be done thanks to donations from the public and a sponsorship from Hessequa Municipality.
This hardworking team needed nourishment and we received a wonderful donation of food from Geel Mossie and Johlene and Ansie Nobody could resist Martie de Necker's muffins, freshly baked everyday.
Our heartfelt thanks to our hardworking team that cared for each and every animal which helped to make the Spayathon super successful.
Firstly, we needed to get our crates out of storage and Meghan Louwrens from Riversdal Toyota quickly helped us with that.
A huge thank you to Marilize du Toit, Heidi Vermaak and her dear mom Marlene Phillips. Francelle Vermaak en her friend Kenny. Wessel Peens help with the heavy lifting ... nice to have men help.
Robyn Learmonth was in charge of the very important task of finances. Chrislynn Wakefild and Hendrieka Hendricks was helping every step of the way.
Thinus Lotz was as always there to arrange the picking up and sorting everything else. Once the sterilisation was done he fixed all the broken crates and sorted all blankets that were used.
Shanine, who worked hard, even helped Thinus to pick-up some dogs.
We were very grateful for the help by our pound master, Alfred Cupido, and his assistant, Liyanda Johannes.
