SOUTH CAPE NEWS - Good rainfall was received over most of the Southern parts of the district during the weekend of 16 September.
Rainfall varied between 66mm in Riversdale, 84mm in Mossel Bay, 207mm in Wamboomskraal, 54mm in Knysna and 47mm in Bitou.
All major dams have shown an increase in the storage volume, with the Duivenhoks peaking at an increase of 12,38%, followed by the Garden Route dam on 9,77% and the Wolwedans dam on 7,82% .
These figures will still increase in the next day or two, with more rain expected to fall and the run-off from last weekend's rain still flowing into dams.
"I would like to extend a word of caution though, we should not see this as the end of the drought in our area and with very little follow-up rain predicted for the rest of this year, we need to save as much of the water that we have in storage to tie us over to the middle of next year, when near normal climatic conditions is expected to return," said Gerhard Otto, Manager: Disaster Management.
