STILBAAI NEWS - Well-known and loved Stilbaai resident Christine Kroon (72) passed away peacefully at her home on Friday 1 May. Her funeral service was conducted by Rev Ronnie Cawood on Wednesday 6 May in the United Church.
Kroon is described by her daughter Sharon Hulley as a pillar of her family: "She was an excellent cook, a great caterer, she loved reading, socialising and established many lasting friendships wherever she went."
She and her late husband Lynn, retired to Stilbaai after many years on their family farm, Melrose, in the Graaff-Reinet district. She grew up in Graaff-Reinet and attended the high school's 55th reunion last year.
The Kroons had been regular holiday visitors to Stilbaai and could often be seen fishing from their boat Chrissie. After becoming a permanent resident, she was a member of the local bowls club, an active member on the United Church Council and regularly did trips to Mossel Bay and George to take people to the airport or other appointments.
Kroon is survived by her daughter, son Martin and seven grandchildren. Lena and Tristan Hulley live with their parents in the UK, while Martin's children Malcolm, Bronwyn and Carmen as well as JJ and Pamela Lotriet are in South Africa.
Her brother in law Rory Kroon says: "She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, and leaves a hole in their hearts that will take a long time to mend."
