Update
HESSEQUA NEWS - On 14 February, approximately 3600 hectares of vegetation has burned.
The seven-day wildfire at Gysmanshoek, is almost contained. The wildfire is still active within a deep gorge on the west toward the Boosmansbos Reserve.
On the south-easterly flank and north-west of plantations, it was decided to not use the mulching machine. It might be used tomorrow, when required. Mulching machines are used to clear dense vegetation to create a defensible space and/or a firebreak.
The south-easterly winds prevented any spread of the wildfires down the mountain that caused the outer fireline to self-extinguish.
Firefighters managed to secure the entire wildfire from spreading to infrastructure since they arrived on scene.
Unfavourable windy conditions are forecasted for midnight, and firefighters will be on high alert. They will closely monitor smouldering areas for any flare-ups.
Garden Route District Municipality (GRDM) and CapeNature recruited ground crews will be in on the ground throughout the night.
