Update
HESSEQUA NEWS - The wildfire in the Gysmanshoek area continues to burn this morning, Monday 14 February. Cloud cover still presents over the affected area.
Temperatures are expected to rise to approximately 30° C today and this will improve visibility, but the situation might change by midday.
The wildfire is divided into two parts at the moment. The fireline on the northern side of Brandrivier is contained.
The south-westerly fire line, north of Heidelberg, is covered with low clouds and this makes visibility an issue.
On the south-easterly fireline (north-west of MTO plantations and Korinteriver Dam) there is also no visibility at the moment due to low cloud cover.
Plans remain in place with a mulching machine to be utilised on the foot of the mountain today to create a defensible and containment line.
To date one (1) home has been lost, while seven (7) have been saved by firefighters.
Roleplayers include: Garden Route District Municipality's (GRDM's) Fire Services, CapeNature and ground crews from Working on Fire and local landowner.
