STILBAAI NEWS - Fish that occur in the Stilbaai Marine Protected Area are monitored by counting them when they enter the ancient stone fish traps along the coastline during spring tide in winter.
The MPA is home to 38 species of fish with a further 78 species in the Goukou Estuary.
During the past three years, 12 120 fish of 28 different species were counted in the traps.
The status of these species came under the spotlight on World Fisheries Day, which is annually celebrated on 21 November. This day highlights the critical importance of fish and the lives they sustain, both in and out of water.
