HESSEQUA NEWS - All flanks of the wildfire are contained at this stage. The road leading from Gouritsmond to Stillbay via Gourikwa remains closed, and motorists are advised to use the N2.
- Division A: North contained.
- Division B: West contained.
- Division C: South, southwest contained.
- Division D: East flank: contained.
Several spots inside the burned area are still smouldering. The weather forecast for today includes strong winds again, potentially resulting in flare-ups. This could spread embers from the already burned area.
An aerial reconnaissance will also be performed this morning at 07:30 to gain a bird's eye view of the incident.
Mopping up and patrol of all divisions will continue throughout the day. The objective remains to protect life and properties while attempting to extinguish wildfires.
No structures have been lost and all personnel, including the Albertinia Farm Watch (GRDM volunteers) and a farmer assisting with a tractor implementing firebreaks, are thanked for their efforts in this regard.
Aerial resources remain on standby at the Stillbay airfield.
Roleplayers include GRDM, Hessequa Municipality Fire Services, Working on Fire, Albertinia Farmwatch and the Southern Cape Fire Protection Association.
Remember to report fire-related incidents to the Garden Route Emergency Centre at 044 805 5071.
