GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - As the Knysna Municipality, under an ANC-led coalition government, grapples with water outages, the DA-governed George Municipality has stepped in to provide 105 000 litres of critical water assistance, showcasing a stark contrast in governance and a commitment to serving all residents.
This was revealed by the Department of Local Government in a written reply to a parliamentary question in the Western Cape Provincial Parliament.
The intervention highlights how the failure of the ANC-led coalition to maintain critical infrastructure has required a DA-led municipality to provide emergency support.
The George Municipality dispatched a tanker that delivered water directly into Knysna's reservoirs to prevent a total system collapse. The operation was executed with maximum efficiency at a minimal cost of approximately R1 500, with no overtime incurred.

Dave Bryant said: "This intervention underscores a painful reality for the people of Knysna: when the ANC fails, the DA is left to clean up."
"While the DA will never abandon residents to a water crisis, regardless of the political leadership of their town, it is unacceptable that the residents of Knysna have to suffer because of ANC mismanagement," Bryant further added.
The incident is a microcosm of a national problem where failed ANC governance directly impacts service delivery, forcing competent governments to intervene.
"The people of Knysna deserve a government that fixes pipes and maintains reservoirs, not one that relies on its neighbours for emergency bailouts. This entire situation proves that DA governments are proactive, cooperative, and have an unwavering commitment to delivering services where they are needed most. This is the clearest possible illustration of the choice facing South Africans: the failed, corrupt governance of the ANC, or the proven, service-delivery focus of the DA."
