SOUTHERN CAPE NEWS - Impressive performances with the bat by Andrew Puttick and Pieter Malan, as well as a fine bowling display by Dane Piedt, gave the Cobras the edge in their pre-season fixture against the Warriors at the weekend.
It was played at the Recreation Ground in Oudtshoorn. The two-day match ended in a draw.
The Warriors, who were requested to bat, made a solid start and progressed to 112/2 but Dane Piedt (4/24 in 10 overs) restricted the visitors to 221 (all out).
The experienced Puttick (100; 170 balls, 1x6, 12 x4) grafted for an impressive century and together with Malan (72; 149 balls, 1x6, 9x4), posted an opening stand of 170 (280 balls).
Jason Smit (55) contributed with a well-played half century before the Cobras declared their first innings at 354/7 for a first innings lead of 133.
Anrich Nortje (2/31) and Sisanda Magala (2/62) were the pick of the Warriors bowlers.
The Warriors were at 96/2 in their second innings at the end of play. Edward Moore was unbeaten on 53* (76 balls; 1x6, 9x4).
