NATIONAL NEWS - A man was recently arrested in Capital Park, Pretoria, after he was found in possession of 147 bottles of cough syrup.
Members of the Tshwane police flying squad arrested the 28-year-old in Van Heerden Street in Hercules, on Saturday.
“The suspect was arrested on the R21 South near the Nellmapius off-ramp after a tip-off from a reliable source. He was driving a white Toyota with an unknown registration. Through the search of the vehicle,147 bottles of BronCleer cough syrup were found hidden under the seat sealed with black plastic,” says flying squad spokesperson Sergeant Alfred Legodi.
The suspect was detained at Lyttelton Police Station for contravention of the Medicines Act 101 of 1965 and the Immigration Act 13 of 2002 on suspicion he is in the country illegally.
The vehicle was taken to the Pretoria West pound for safeguarding as it had been used in the commission of crime.
The value of the recovered items is estimated to be R15 000.
