NATIONAL NEWS - Thousands are gathered at the Union Buildings to witness the swearing in of Cyril Ramaphosa as President of the Republic of South Africa.
Dignitaries from across the world and many heads of state are getting the red carpet treatment at the ceremony. These include the presidents of Cuba, Burundi, Zimbabwe, Mauritius and Angola.
An artist started painting the likeness of the president on a giant canvass at about 10:00 this morning at the Union Buildings and finished it at 11:00 – the official time set for the start of the inauguration.
President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to address the world at about 12:00 noon.
Former President Thabo Mbeki arrived at the Union Buildings amid loud applause.
