NATIONAL NEWS - Two men are due to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on August 25 on charges including human trafficking, kidnapping and sexual offences after one was arrested at his uMhlanga home and the other handed himself over to police, reports Northglen News.
A 65-year-old businessman appeared in court last Wednesday (after the KZN Hawks arrested him at his uMhlanga home on Tuesday, 11 August, following the execution of a J50 warrant.
His name has previously been mentioned at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, which is investigating allegations of corruption within SAPS and the criminal justice system.
The accused faces multiple charges
He faces charges of trafficking in persons, sexual assault, procuring a female to have unlawful carnal intercourse, kidnapping, contravening the Films and Publications Act 65 of 1996, crimen injuria and contravening the Cybercrimes Act 19 of 2020.
The State alleges that between February and March 2022, the complainants were brought to KwaZulu-Natal under false pretences of employment. They were allegedly held against their will and sexually exploited.
A 48-year-old man faces charges of trafficking in persons, procuring a female to have unlawful carnal intercourse, crimen injuria and contravening the Act.
He handed himself over to Durban North SAPS several days after the businessman was arrested.
The accused cannot be named at this stage because the case involves alleged sexual offences. Their identities may be published once they have pleaded.
