GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - The Garden Route District Municipality Joint Operations Centre says five areas are still cut off by the floods and its resultant road damage. Hundreds of people stuck in these areas are receiving humanitarian assistance.
Luckily, water levels of the rivers are gradually decreasing.
The following areas are still cut off:
- Vlakteplaas, Meiringspoort (4 people)
- Warmbad (90 families)
- Muisplaas (30 families)
- Nel's River, De Rust (17 people)
- Middelplaas (30 people)

Roads that remain closed
Roads are proactively closed as the water flows to the southern part of the district towards the Gouritz area.
Hessequa
- De Draai Road - between Albertinia and Riversdale a structure is damaged at 26,5km (Alternative route to both sides)
- Slangrivier - road that provide access to the first community in Slangrivier (Alternative route to both sides)
Mossel Bay
- Muiskraal/Herbertsdale road - Gouritz River in flood - closed since 6 June (Alternative routes to both sides)
Oudtshoorn
- Kleinspoort Road between Kamanassie River in flood (No alternative route available)
- Waaikraal, Olifants River in flood (Alternative route to both sides)
- Le Rouxstasie, Olifants River in flood (Alternative route via Dysselsdorp)
- Middelplaas, Olifants River river in flood (No alternative route)
- Varkenskraal, Olifants River in flood, road damage (Locals only)
- Oude Muragie, debris on drift (No alternative route)
- Vergelegen, rver in flood gravel wash aways. Locals only (No alternative route)
- Paardebond, river in flood (locals only with 4 x 4)
- Slang River, rift approaches washed away (No alternative route)
- Potgieterspoort, major damage on road (Alternative route available to both sides)
- Volmoed, rockfalls (Alternative routes to both sides)
- Kammanassie Dam/Rooiheuwel, river in flood (Alternative route via Dysselsdorp)
- Rooiloop, Olifants River, big waterhole in road (Alternative routes to both sides)
- Meiringspoort - remains closed since 4 June (Alternative Route via the N9, Willowmore from Beaufort West)
- N12 between Oudtshoorn and De Rust where the road crosses Nel's River - remains closed since 4 June (Alternative route access via the Langkloof road)
- Volmoed Road due to rockfalls - remains closed since 5 June (Alternative route access via the R328 between Mossel Bay and Oudtshoorn)
- Rooiheuwel Road - remains closed since 5 June (Alternative route via Dysselsdorp)
George/Wilderness/Uniondale
- Pietersrivier (Alternative route via Avontuur)
- Vaalwater, Road damage (No alternative route)
- Kamanassie, river in flood (Locals only, alternative routes on both sides)
- Toorwater, river in flood (Locals only)
- DR1660 Joncksrust Road (or known as Kliprivier Road) (30km from Uniondale) due to rockfalls (remains closed since 4 June) Alternative route: Road is not fully cut-off, but can follow an alternative route via Avontuur.
- Prince Alfred Pass between Uniondale and Knysna due to rockfalls and flooding (remains closed since 5 June) No alternative route for this road.
- Haarlem access on the west side is restricted (remains closed since 5 June) Alternative Route: Access possible from the east turn-off.
- Oshoek, approaches washed away. (No alternative route)
- Gwaiing, closed at 6,5km, structure washed away (Alternative routes on both sides)
Kannaland
- Gai se Middelpad, Gamka River in flood (Alternative route available via Gamka west)
- Jachtberg, Gamka River in flood (Alternative route available via Gamka west)
- Doornkloof, Olifants River in flood (No alternative route available)
- Vlei River, Olifants River river in flood (No alternative route available)
