Two inflatable rubber ducks travels by sea with teams changing at pre-determined points while the Land Team (cyclists and runners) travel along the coast and on the N2 and secondary roads leading to and from the N2.
Seven teams and 230 students participated in the Trans Enduro with the day's event at the harbor, starting with a parade.
The entire exercise is planned and executed by the Academy students and develops their leadership skills and enhances their understanding of the practical issues related to community service.
Team Masiza (Community Outreach) raised funds for the Maties Community Service of Stellenbosch University for welfare projects.
They do this through community services such as cleaning streets, painting school buildings and visiting old-age homes.
The runners tackled the route to Struisbaai behind the cyclists.
Information about the Hessequa region, as well as its link to the military - the most southerly battle of the Anglo Boer War, took place in the area and a memorial next to the R305 between the N2 and Stilbaai tells the story - was convey to the students.
The Executive Major of Hessequa, Grant Riddles, could not attend the event and councillor Thinus van den Berg delivered a message of goodwill to the group.
The Sea Team was the first to depart, after which the cyclists were on their way followed by the runners.
The public was invited to participate and ran some of the route in Stilbaai with the students.
