Students from all six campuses of the college, including George, Mossel Bay, Oudtshoorn, Hessequa, Bitou and Beaufort West, gathered with parents and loved ones to receive their certificates and diplomas. This was the first year that graduation bands were manufactured especially for the college in its branded colours and logo. Students' sashes differed from those of lecturers as the College Council's bands were also of distinctive colouring.
Distinguished guest Lebogang Moekwena, Director of Youth Development Programmes at the Department of Higher-
Education and Training in Pretoria, delivered an exceptional speech. She confirmed the support of her department towards colleges and emphasized that this national body regards colleges as a very important pillar in the ranks of education in South Africa.
Chief Executive Officers from two other Western Cape colleges also attended the ceremony. Leon Beech (Northlink College) and Jannie Isaacs (College of Cape Town) travelled from Cape Town with their respective wives in support of South Cape FET College's culmination of academic efforts. The constitution was performed by Ignatius Loff, acting College Council Chairperson.
National Certificate Vocational certificates in levels two to four were awarded in various disciplines including Office Administration, Marketing, Tourism, Hospitality, Safety in Society, Information Technology and Computer Science, Civil Engineering and Building Construction. Diplomas were awarded in Financial Management, Management Assistant and Business Management. The top achievers in each category were announced amongst loud applause. Students each received a personalised trophy with their scrolls to commemorate this special day.
Only diploma and level four students wore gowns, but the remainder of the student corps was all dressed in black and white, contributing to the prestige of this day.
The event was concluded with a finger lunch for special guests on the first floor of the college's new central office building. The Chief Executive Officer of South Cape FET College, Luvuyo Ngubelanga, said that this was one of the highlights of his career, being witness to a ceremony of students that achieved so much and, thereafter being able to proudly show off the new professional office building of the college's headquarters.
