Open letter to Mayor Grant Riddles, from residents and leaders
We, a number of concerned residents, decided to write you a letter about the recent outcome of the disciplinary committee hearing regarding the allegation of "misconduct" in the Melkhoutfontein social housing matter.
We wholeheartedly disagree with the decision of the disciplinary committee and refer to the dossier of evidence including audio recordings, that's been handed over, where you the mayor, is clearly audible telling housing beneficiaries "to lie about their income in order to qualify for housing subsidies."
Instead of just quoting religious phrases, won't you agree that one must live by it and lead by example.
Unfortunately, you have not done so and should have rather used this opportunity to apologise to the residents of Hessequa for having failed them and do the honourable thing and resign for the sake of keeping your dignity.
May we draw your attention to:
1. The Abrahams's and anyone else for that matter are not obligated to attend any municipal disciplinary hearings. They do however must attend the court case.
2. Their affidavit and all the evidence (voice note) is there which is more than enough evidence.
3. However, your party use their "none attendance" as an excuse to get you off the hook. How convenient again?
4. Nevertheless, the case is still open with SAPS ( MAS 35/04/2023) and the Hawks are investigating.
