ALBERTINIA NUUS - Albertinia Chess Club kicked their first official tournament off on Saturday 10 September at Oker Primary School.
It was the first tournament hosted by the club since 2008 when the Albertinia Open was held.
The favourite in the open section was Gideon Louw, who is rated 1 770, a whole 523 rating point difference over the second seed, André September (1 247).
Louw attained 6 out of 6 points to claim first place. September finished second and Leigh-Hende Eksteen third.
In the development section Phildene Alexander showed women power and finished in first place on a tie break as she and Michael Wyngaard (second), both scored 4.5 out of 6.
Siyanda Samuels came in third place.
