RIVERSDALE NEWS - One of the big mountain bike competitions on the local sports calender is the Baleia Wines MTB and Adventure Trail Run on Saturday 9 September.
There will be a 20km, 40km and 88km route in the MTB challenge, as well as the first ever 12km Baleia Wines Adventure Trail Run. The 20km route will mostly consist of a single and jeep track, with an altitude gain of almost 320m.
There will be one water point on the route. The 40km route will consist of 60% flowing gravel road and 40% jeep and single track of a total altitude gain of 600m. There will be three water points (10km, 21km and 30km) on the route.
The big one, the 88 km route will consist of mostly gravel roads (70%) with about 30% single and jeep tracks with a total altitude gain of 1060m. There will be five water points at 10km, 30km, 50km, 65km and 78km.
The 12km Trail Run consists of gravel road, jeep track and single track and the first 2,9km of gravel road is the same as the mountain bike route before it turns away and descends into a ravine. From here it is single and jeep track up and down ravines, hills, valleys and a little forest section.
The last 500m is again shared by the MTB trails. There will be a water point at approximately 6km, although participants are encouraged to also carry their own supplies.
