FOOTBALL NEWS - The Mossel Bay Local Football Association concluded its 2021/22 Domestic League Season last week with three final matches taking place at the same time at the Extension 23 Stadium on Wednesday evening, 22 June.
One was a match between Sea Birds and Thembu Royals football clubs.
Sea Birds FC, which was the team of late Mossel Bay town councillor Peter Lichaba, was crowned the champion of the season in style, having won the match 4-1 at the final whistle. Lichaba passed away in May this year.
After 30 matches, Sea Birds amassed 73 points and 117 goals, which is an all-time record in the Mossel Bay local football league.
They will compete in the SAFA Regional League play-offs in an attempt to gain promotion to the SAB League. They will compete with five other clubs from the Garden Route District.
During its journey, the club had a period of grief wherein it lost three of its key executive members. This had a strain and impact on its financial situation as the president, team manager and treasurer are no longer there. They were crucial in raising funds for the club.
Therefore, as a grassroots development team which has no financial assistance, it will be a mammoth task for the team to reach greater heights. Contributions of any sort are welcome to assist the team in achieving its goals.
Individuals, institutions and any interested parties may contact team manager Lucky Nonyati (061 332 3157 or luckynonyati@gmail.com) to offer a contribution of any kind towards the team's expenses.
