FOOTBALL NEWS - Could Manchester United Football Club be seeking sponsorship from South Africa?
In a video doing the rounds on social media, acting CEO of SA Tourism, Themba Khumalo is seen opening a package supposedly sent from Manchester United Football club to SA Tourism’s Offices in Sandton, Johannesburg.
A verified video is doing the rounds on social media of an excited Khumalo opening a package sent from the club to the agency’s offices in Sandton, Johannesburg. Khumalo says in the video:
The football club sent Khumalo a Red Devils jersey with the words “VISIT SOUTH AFRICA” along with his surname and the club’s revered “no 7”.
In the video, an excited Khumalo can be heard saying – “1.1 billion followers worldwide, if we convert [one per cent of these followers] that is 11 million incremental visitors to the destination.
“So this is a proposal from Manchester United.”
This possible request from Manchester United comes in the midst of the South African government preparing to sign a nearly R1 billion sponsorship agreement with the English Premier League football club Tottenham Hotspur.
