ATHLETICS NEWS - Annabelle and Cameron McEwan of Holy Cross Primary School in George represented South Africa in the girls u.15 and boys u.11 categories at the World Biathle Championships in Madeira Island, Portugal, from 27 to 30 October.
The event consists of a continuous run, a swim and a second run, with the distances varying according to age group.
The tough challenge saw the athletes running along a course on the beach and then onto the promenade at the town of Machico, while the swim was in the sea.
A total of 650 athletes from 31 countries took part.
In their first international event of this nature, Cameron placed 14th in his age group and Annabelle 15th. In the team event both came fourth.
Annabelle also took part in the mixed team relay, where she and her partner achieved 8th place.
