GARDEN ROUTE | KAROO | HESSEQUA NEWS - The entire news industry, including tech giant Google, has decided to ignore April Fool’s Day this year to prevent the spread of potentially damaging fake news about Covid-19.
Google, known for some of the best April Fool's pranks, has told its staff to abstain from participating in the company’s annual ritual of fooling internet users, out of respect to those suffering from Covid-19.
It’s no joke
Group Editors, the publishers of George Herald, Knysna-Plett Herald, Mossel Bay Advertiser, Oudtshoorn Courant, South Cape Forum and Graaff-Reinet Advertiser, has also taken the decision not to indulge in April Fool's pranks.
In these trying times, nearly all news items or stories are somehow related to Covid-19, and even an innocent hoax may lead to the spread of fake news and distasteful, hurtful eventualities.
We ask all our online users to respect this decision and to please refrain from posting April Fool's jokes on any of our online platforms.
