GOURITSMOND NEWS - Two months after a section of the Gouritz Rivier low-water bridge was washed away during the heavy rains and strong winds, the repairs to it are almost complete.
The bridge, which is on the Vleesbaai road to Gouritsmond, was initially closed off on 8 May due to the flooding.
A man also had to be rescued early that morning, after his bakkie had become lodged in some debris on the bridge.
As the days wore on, a section of the bridge was washed away, leaving it completely inaccessible.
Gouritsmond resident Gallie Vermeulen has posted several updates on the Gouritsmond Facebook group regarding the progress of the repairs. He posted some photos on the group on 8 July, showing that the repairs are nearing completion.
