Update
RIVERSDAL NEWS - Janique Gerber, head girl of Langenhoven High School, has been selected as a semi-finalist in the 2018 Miss High School SA pageant.
Janique is flying the flag high for Langenhoven, as she is one of only 24 semi-finalists been selected for the contest out of hundreds of entries received from high schools across the country.
She said that she is honoured to have been selected for this pageant, which has the power to do a lot of good among young high school girls in South Africa.
"I'm very excited to be selected as a semi-finalist. This pageant is known for its positive message of empowering young women in various aspects, including at community level, which is something that is close to my heart. I would love to use my position as a semi-finalist (and hopefully future positions, should I advance in the competition) to effect positive change in our community. If you are given an opportunity to do something to help others, you must do it. It is up to us as the younger generation to be the change we want to see in the world, and this pageant helps us to do just that."
This bubbly 18-year-old with a lust for life and a keen interest to uplift others is equally passionate about healthy living and enjoys hockey, beauty and fashion. She is well-known among her peers as being a positive role model with an inspirational outlook. As such, Janique's personal motto is, 'in a world where you can be anything, be yourself'.
Aimed at identifying bright, young individuals who will be ambassadors to represent high school students in South Africa, in various initiatives, with the main one being to support the Girl Power Foundation (www.girlpowerfoundation.co.za) – the pageant has over the years seen the rise of some of the finest young ladies in the country.
The objective of the pageant is to empower young girls through education, participating in charity work, therefore, building social awareness and responsibility amongst them. This will
also build confidence and leadership skills. The winning young ladies would also become role models in their schools, communities, other schools and to young children across the country.
This year there are 24 semi-finalists selected out of hundreds of entries, from across the country. Each semi-finalist is required to raise R 2000 towards the pageant and The Girl Power Foundation, either by getting sponsorship or through fundraising initiatives.
Voting lines are already open.
The pageant is organised and hosted by Gees! Entertainment (www.geesent.com) and the Finale will be held later in the year in Johannesburg.
