HESSEQUA NEWS - The Hessequa region has developed a marvellous reputation as an art and crafts destination with the establishment of various art-related business ventures, an art route as well as colourful murals in most towns.
Art is widely known to stimulates creativity, boosts the self-esteem, and plays a crucial role in social cohesion, which promotes shared experiences.
The approved Hessequa Tourism Destination Strategy highlights the importance of art from a tourism perspective and recommends projects and interventions to further develop and promote art in order to grow the local tourism sector.
From a business development perspective, artists are encouraged to practise their talent and be mindful of the economical output which it yields, be it from the hosting of a local art exhibition or commissioning artwork. It is important to note that art is a form of entrepreneurship and thus should not operate in isolation.
Artists, where possible, should therefore participate in existing entrepreneurial development programmes and outreaches initiated by the various stakeholders within the Hessequa Municipal area.
The Tourism Section of Hessequa Municipality thus invites local artists (canvas painters, sketchers, illustrators, sculptors, photographers and creative writers) interested in participating in business development programmes to register such interest by contacting the Senior Tourism and Development Officer, Riaan Malan at riaan@hessequa.gov.za or 028 713 7953 before or on Monday, 27 May by 15:00.
