HEIDELBERG NEWS - Heidelberg Police Station has recently acquired the services of a new station commander, Lt Col Bongiwe Mthulu.
This "thoroughbred" police officer, who hails from the former Transkei, has 22 years of loyal and dedicated service as a law enforcement officer.
She officially fills the position that was left vacant after Col Sipho Dyani was transferred to Thembalethu in April 2019.
Capt Mervyn Zana kept the fort as acting station commander until the end of March. The latter will be retiring at the end of April.
Mthulu is also not a total stranger to the Southern Cape, as she has served in various capacities during her career at SAPS, where her last position was in George.
She has made it clear during the very brief interview that she is here to serve and make a difference.
"If you sit back and look around you, it is clear that we need to take hands and work together to enable us as police and community to realise the ideals we all dream of to live in a better society and environment."
Although being a kind-hearted person, Mthulu has made it clear that no level of crime committed will be tolerated by her and her management.
She has also made it clear that she will maintain an open-door policy, allowing the public to have access to her.
